Defensive Duo Reunites With Thunder

(Stockton, CA) —Good friends and former teammates Gehrig Lindberg and Chris Ciolek (pronounced SEE-oh-lick) have each signed for the upcoming Stockton Thunder training camp. The pair of defensemen has previously played together for the Blue Ridge Bobcats and Baton Rouge Zydeco (now Kingfish) of the Federal Prospects Hockey League.

“We’re both from the Buffalo (New York) area and have known each other for a few years now,” Ciolek said. “This is a good opportunity for both of us.”

Ciolek is 6-foot-1, 194 pounds and started his career as a forward. “One of my teams, there was a need for defense, so I made the transition and have been there ever since.”

Lindberg is working on his pilot license and is looking forward to life with the Thunder. “Being from near Buffalo the weather was a factor,” he said with a laugh. “Time flies and I’m only 23 so I’m hungry to keep getting better.”

Thunder director of hockey operations Gary Graham, is delighted to have the pair in the fold. “Gehrig competes extremely hard on the back end and takes pride in finishing checks and being difficult to play against. I’m excited to see him bring that style to the Thunder.

“Chris is a good skating d-man with good confident puck skills. He takes pride in the penalty kill and shutting guys down,” Graham said.

Saturday, October 17th is the home opener for the Thunder at Adventist Health Arena against the Oceanside Shock. The team has several public events and appearances scheduled leading up to the first home game.
