Stockton Thunder Acquire Alexander Ray and John Kaljian in First Trade in Franchise History

STOCKTON, CA — The Stockton Thunder have completed the first trade in franchise history, acquiring forwards Alexander Ray and John Kaljian from the Port Huron Prowlers in exchange for forward Jamie Bucell.

The move marks another important step in building the first Thunder roster of the Federal Prospects Hockey League era. After selecting Bucell from Port Huron during the 2026 FPHL Expansion Draft, Stockton used the asset to add two forwards who bring size, versatility, production, and high-level experience to the organization.

Ray gives the Thunder a strong, versatile presence up front. A 6-foot-3 forward from Hässelby, Sweden, Ray brings size down the middle and the ability to contribute in multiple situations. Prior to beginning his professional career, Ray spent four seasons at King’s College, where he played NCAA Division III hockey and finished his collegiate career with 25 points in 81 games.

One of Ray’s strongest qualities is his ability in the faceoff circle. During his time at King’s, Ray finished with 450 career faceoff wins, ranking fourth in program history. That experience gives Stockton another responsible forward who can be trusted in key moments, especially in defensive-zone draws, late-game situations, and special-teams matchups.

Ray also brings flexibility to the Thunder lineup. Port Huron described him as a player who competes hard and can play both forward and defense, giving Stockton a valuable piece as the organization continues shaping its roster. For a new team building chemistry from the ground up, players with versatility and compete level are especially important.

Kaljian adds another strong piece to the Thunder forward group. The South Lyon, Michigan native spent part of last season with the Athens Rock Lobsters, where he produced 14 points on five goals and nine assists in 20 games. His production in Athens showed his ability to make an impact offensively while contributing to one of the strongest teams in the league.

Before joining the FPHL, Kaljian gained experience in the SPHL with the Macon Mayhem and Peoria Rivermen. He also played collegiate hockey at Adrian College, where he was part of a highly successful NCAA Division III program. Kaljian was part of Adrian’s NCAA Division III national championship team in 2021-22 and also helped the Bulldogs capture NCHA championships in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Kaljian’s background brings a winning pedigree to Stockton. Between junior hockey, college hockey, SPHL experience, and his time in Athens, he has been part of competitive environments and understands what it takes to play meaningful hockey. That experience should be valuable as the Thunder work toward building a strong culture in their first FPHL season.

In exchange, Port Huron reacquires Bucell, who was selected by Stockton in the Expansion Draft. Bucell served as an alternate captain for the Prowlers last season and recorded 30 points in 53 games, including a career-high 20 assists. He has also totaled 75 points in 118 career FPHL games between Port Huron and the Binghamton Black Bears.

For Stockton, the trade turns one expansion draft selection into two roster pieces with different strengths. Ray brings size, versatility, and faceoff ability, while Kaljian brings production, championship experience, and another skilled forward option. Together, they give the Thunder more depth and flexibility as the team continues preparing for its inaugural season.

The first trade in Thunder history is more than a transaction. It is another sign that Stockton is actively building, evaluating, and shaping the identity of its first FPHL roster.
